OUR WOOL STORY

Big Save is proud to work with local New Zealand farmers to produce our New Zealand wool sofa range. We are continuously reimagining how we source materials to manufacture quality products. As Kiwi consumers become more aware of the importance of purchasing sustainably made products, there is a growing demand for materials that are as beneficial to human health as they are to the environment.

After the year that was ‘Covid’, it’s no longer ‘business as usual’ — it’s ‘business with a better purpose’. As a brand, we asked ourselves: what do our customers truly want? This opened the door to homegrown innovation that cares for both the customer and the planet. At the forefront of this is our sustainably grown New Zealand wool.

Thanks to wool’s natural ability to regulate temperature and neutralise Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) — the microparticles produced by widely used synthetic fibres — it’s becoming the fibre of choice for fashion designers and furniture manufacturers alike. Naturally fire-retardant and allergy-friendly, wool offers comfort, safety, and sustainability.

Big Save, Big Benefits

As the world shifted its focus in 2020, we also shifted our values — looking at how furniture could make a positive impact in people’s lives. This brought our wool sofa range into focus for the brand. The range features supportive, loose-tufted wool in the back and seat cushions, with the option to upholster using our 100% New Zealand Wool Drysdale fabric.

Supporting our Farmers

Upon hearing about the dire situation many wool farmers were facing — some unable to move their stockpiles — we, as a retailer, brainstormed how we could make a positive impact. We set out to work alongside farmers to develop a product that would benefit not only our customers but also our Kiwi farmers.

We commit to paying a fair price to NZ wool farmers, offering $4.50 per kg — well above the current standard of $1.50.
